Alternative Therapies
Three months after completing treatment, I finally took the advice of a friend that kept suggesting the practice of acupuncture. She's been visiting her acupuncturist, Dr. Shou-Litman which is now mine as well, for over three years with great results for her symptoms. Not only is Dr. Shou-Litman very experienced at what she does, she is also tremendously compassionate. I visited her for the first time at the end of March 2013, and by the second week of April, she and I both noticed significant improvement. She has focused on my circulatory as well as GI systems. She is in the South Miami area and you can find more information about Dr. Shou-Litman and her practice at Longevity Acupuncture.

Post treatment, I've wanted to do everything possible to detox and rebuild my body in the most natural way I can. God has really led me to the people I need for my recuperation and well being. It turns out the yoga center I started practicing at has an instructor that is an acupuncturist. Staff insisted that I see him but being the loyal person I tend to be, I didn't want to leave Dr. Shou-Litman. During a yoga practice, a day in which I was having particular difficulty because of the fatigue I was still experiencing from treatment, the instructor approached me after class. I let her know why I was struggling. She related her personal story of suffering from lupus (I was impressed during class because I had read her bio on the yoga center's website but her energy was amazing), and how her visit with holistic specialists has her in remission. She literally brought into the room Dr. Diego Rutenberg, who turns out is not only a yoga instructor and acupuncturist, but also the Director of Holistic Specialists. I took the advice and am so grateful to them. Their concern is to find the source of problems, so a series of lab tests were performed that among other things found systemic yeast overgrowth in my body. They prescribed natural supplements which I began taking on June 15, 2013, and by June 26th, I actually worked my first full 8 hour day in the office! By July 4th, I felt a complete clearing of the sinus problems as well as fatigue that had been chronic for so many years (and remember the treatments I received for cancer also cause fatigue as a side effect). If this is an option you would like to explore, you can find more information about them at HolisticSpecialists.com. Here is an interesting article they provided to me about the harmful effects of yeast overgrowth in the body.

Unified Therapy with Dr. Paul Canali, D.C., helped me resolve a childhood trauma that I'd been carrying for over 30 years. This is an interdisciplinary holistic approach of allowing the body to trigger its self-healing capabilities by creating awareness of traumas and enabling the release of deep rooted stress. I was quite skeptical about this but I had an experience that I had not had with any other practice. It only took two sessions for me to feel I had obtained the benefits I needed. This may not be for everyone, but personally, it served a great purpose in my life. It really felt like an out of body experience and it brought me much needed healing. You can find more information about Dr. Canali and his Unified Therapy approach at Evolutionaryhealing.com. Here are some interesting articles I picked up at Dr. Canali's office:

Wellness Therapy
This is what in the traditional sense is known as "Mental Health Counseling". I would love to dispel the stigma associated with this resource. I put it in quotations because I think the label alone contributes to the stigma. For me, it's just another part of the whole of who we are and I prefer to consider it an alternative therapy, an empowerment tool or resource.
Through the Cancer Support Community, I met Susan B. Rainsberger, MS in Mental Health Counseling and Family Therapy. I have to reiterate how God has really brought so many resources my way, and I am blessed and lucky to say everyone that is assisting me in my healing is greatly compassionate. I've continued my therapy sessions with Susan and I can say that my mind is as strong as its ever been. Susan challenges me to really consider alternate thoughts which I do, and because of it I feel more grounded, learning to be mindful in every moment. She is certified in distance therapy so you can actually Skype with her! You can find more information about her and her services at http://sbrainsberger.com/. |
